The Manao : Every year in January, the once famous Myitkyina Manao
Festival Takes place on the ancient Manao grounds. Because of the
civil war, this festival was, for several decades, toned down to
small village affair. Today however, this ancient animistic
gathering is organized by predominantly Christian Kachins, and since
peace has once again been restored, thousands of Kachins, members of
all tribes, meet to ascertain their cultural identity.
This festival is a one of a kind occurrence, in which the
participants dance for three days around four huge totem poles. |
